No other Spanish city fits so much life into so little ground. The compact model that made Benidorm famous also decides how a charger gets fitted here: nearly always in one numbered space inside a shared basement.
Benidorm chose to grow towards the sky, and half a century later the sustainability studies have caught up with it: more skyscrapers per inhabitant than any city in Europe, the Intempo tower topping out at 192 metres, and a footprint that eats far less land than the sprawl of villas further down the coast. Everything is within walking distance, the TRAM light rail runs along the seafront to Alicante, and each visitor covers fewer kilometres by car than almost anywhere else on the Mediterranean. For an electric car that is close to ideal: a vehicle used sparingly and charged where it rests.
The practical consequence is that the typical job in Benidorm is not a wall in a private driveway. It is a parking space in a basement shared with dozens of other owners. Plenty of residents assume that means asking permission and waiting months for the annual meeting. It does not. Article 17.5 of the Spanish Horizontal Property Act lets you install a charging point in your own space after giving the community prior written notice. No vote, no majority, no agenda item.
Fitting a charger inside a tower has its own craft. We run an individual line from your meter in the building's meter room down to your space, with tidy trunking through the common areas and its own protective devices. Your consumption is metered separately, so nobody else pays for your electricity and the rest of the garage barely notices the installation exists.
Vertical does not mean uniform. On the slopes of Sierra Helada, in the upper reaches of Rincón de Loix and around La Cala there are villas and townhouses where the job is the classic single-family one: the unit on the wall beside the car and a dedicated circuit straight from your own consumer unit.
Basement or garden, the finish is identical. Every installation is carried out to the REBT and its ITC-BT-52, uses certified chargers, and closes with the electrical installation certificate (the boletín, or CIE) registered with the Industry department of the Generalitat Valenciana. The local grid belongs to i-DE, part of the Iberdrola group, and we handle whatever network paperwork your charging point needs with them.

Benidorm's population according to the 2025 INE figures. The town multiplies that in season, but chargers are fitted for residents and second-home owners: the ones who take the lift down to the garage every day.

03Typical jobs
From a basement under a Levante tower to the car park of a hotel on the Poniente side, these are the jobs that come round most often in Benidorm.
The number one job in town. We draft the Article 17.5 written notice for you to hand to the administrator, then carry out the work: an individual line from your meter, trunking through the common areas and a certified charger on your space, however many basement levels lie in between.
The textbook installation: unit on the wall or under the pergola next to the car, a dedicated circuit with its own protection, and solar surplus mode if the house has panels so that the Marina Baixa sunshine goes into the battery.
In a building with hundreds of flats it is only a matter of time before several chargers share one basement. We plan a common riser and dynamic load management so everyone can charge without upgrading the building's supply or tripping over each other.
Drivers of electric cars now filter their booking by whether they can plug in overnight. For hotels and holiday lets we install OCPP points with user identification and billing per session, sized to the car park and left registered and connected to whatever management platform the owner prefers.

04Certified equipment
In a tower your charger sits many floors below your living room, so it pays to choose a unit you can run entirely from your phone: schedule the overnight charge, check consumption and get alerts without walking down to the basement. Everything we fit is a certified charger from a well-established manufacturer.

05Tax relief and sea air
There is one live incentive in 2026 and it is worth being precise about it, because Benidorm is full of owners who are taxed in different countries. The Spanish state offers a 15 % income-tax deduction on the cost of installing a charging point, on a maximum base of 4,000 euros, so up to 600 euros back. The work must be finished before 31 December 2026 and paid by card or transfer, never in cash, so that the payment is traceable.
Second-home owners get one break here: this relief never asks whether the flat is your main home, so a place you open in August counts like any other. The catch is where the deduction lives. It is a line in the Spanish resident income-tax return, the IRPF, so only Spanish tax residents can take it. Owners on the annual non-resident tax have nothing that answers to it, and the EU and EEA equivalence stopped applying to British residents at Brexit. One more nuance that matters in a town like this: if the flat is run as a holiday-let business, the relief falls away.
Nothing else is on the table. The Valencian Community runs no regional deduction for a charging point, and MOVES III finished on 31 December 2025. Anyone promising you a subsidy on top of the 15 % is selling you something. What we do is leave your paperwork in the state your accountant, or your gestor, needs it to be in: itemised invoice, traceable payment and the registered certificate.
Then there is the weather. Benidorm's microclimate is kind to electronics: sun almost all year and no real cold to speak of. The local enemy is salt. In outdoor spaces, on front-line pergolas and in the well-ventilated garages closest to the sea we fit units with a properly sealed enclosure and marine-grade fixings, and we say so in the quote rather than discovering it later.

It is the normal outcome in Benidorm and it is a solved problem. Each unit has dynamic load regulation, and when several share one basement a load management system splits the available power between the cars that are plugged in. The building's main supply does not need upgrading, and every owner pays only for what their own car draws.
In a villa the physical work usually fits into a single day. In a communal garage it turns on how much cable is involved and how many levels it drops through. On top of that come the written notice to the community, where it applies, and the registration with Industria, which we set in motion for you. After the survey we give you real dates rather than a vague estimate.
Inside a closed basement, hardly at all. In outdoor spaces, in the heavily ventilated garages of front-line blocks and under pergolas near the water, salt is worth taking seriously. In those cases we fit certified chargers with a sealed enclosure and use fixings and brackets suitable for a marine environment, and it appears in the quote from the start.
