EV charger installation in Alcoy: an industrial city in the mountains

Alcoy is the exception on this website. Everywhere else in the province the conversation turns on sun, salt and heat; here it turns on altitude, frost and what January does to a battery that has been standing outside all night.

This is a city of 61,468 people according to the 2025 INE figures, the head of the L'Alcoià comarca, and one of the very few places in the Valencian Country whose identity was built in a factory rather than on a beach. Textiles, paper and metalwork made Alcoy the cradle of the Valencian industrial revolution, and manufacturing and services still keep the city working today. That history is written into the streets: Modernista façades in the centre, and the bridges over the Riquer, the Molinar and the Serpis that earned it the nickname of the city of bridges.

It is also a city with a calendar of its own. The Moors and Christians festival in April is the most celebrated of its kind in Spain, and for a few days the whole place reorganises itself around it. Around the edges, the Font Roja and Serra de Mariola natural parks close the horizon in every direction. None of this is scenery borrowed from the coast; Alcoy is not a picturesque appendix to anywhere, and we would not treat it as one.

What matters for a charging point is the altitude. Sitting at roughly 550 to 700 metres, Alcoy gets genuine winters: cold nights, frosts, and the occasional snowfall — occasional being the honest word for it. A lithium battery does not like any of that. In the cold it gives up range, and while the pack is still chilled it also accepts alternating current more slowly, which is exactly the current a home charger delivers. The car is not broken; it is behaving as chemistry says it should.

The good news is that the fix is mostly a matter of where the car sleeps and how the charging is scheduled. A closed garage is several degrees milder than the street, so the pack starts the session warmer. Charging overnight on a timer, and preconditioning the car while it is still plugged in rather than after you unplug, means the heating comes out of the wall instead of the battery. Set up that way, a January morning in Alcoy looks a lot like a March one.

The rest is ordinary craft. We work to the REBT and to ITC-BT-52, we deal with i-DE for anything the network has to authorise, and the job ends with an electrical installation certificate (boletín/CIE) in your name and the registration made with Industria at the Generalitat Valenciana. Choose the charger and leave the file to us.

Alcoy has its own way of doing things, and its winter has nothing in common with the seafront. If you want the wider picture, here is our charging installation service for the province of Alicante.

The grid

Your distributor is i-DE

The distribution network in Alcoy is operated by i-DE, part of the Iberdrola group. Any check on the supply, any change to contracted power: we raise it with them and follow it through until it is done.

Paperwork

The file, closed properly

Work carried out to the REBT and ITC-BT-52, the electrical installation certificate (CIE) issued at the end of it, and the registration made with Industria at the Generalitat Valenciana. Neither item is billed separately.

Altitude

Specified for cold

Between roughly 550 and 700 metres, frost is part of the year. We favour a sheltered or enclosed position, protected cable runs, and a charger whose scheduling actually gets used.

Tax

15% off through the IRPF

Fifteen per cent of the spend comes back through the state deduction, on a base that stops at 4,000 €, so 600 € at the very most. Finish the work before 31/12/2026, pay by traceable means, claim it in the Spanish resident return.

02Guide prices

How much does an EV charger cost in Alcoy?

These are realistic guide ranges for Alcoy, with equipment, labour and certification included. The figure that actually binds us comes in writing, after we have seen where the car spends the night and how far it is from your meter.

House or detached home

The outlying districts and the urbanisations around the city, where a house has its own garage, porch or plot. We put the unit where the car is genuinely coldest at seven in the morning and work back from there, with a cable run sized for a building that may be older and taller than the average, and scheduled charging configured before we leave.

790 – 1,400 €equipment, labour and certification

Communal garage

Standard in the newer districts of Alcoy, and the best possible place for a car in winter: an enclosed basement stays notably milder than the street. The line taken off your own meter, cable clipped along the common parts, and the community notified in writing by us rather than by you.

1,200 – 2,400 €depends on meter-to-space distance

Business or industrial unit

Alcoy's industrial estates run vans and company cars that go out early, which is precisely when the cold bites. Charging for a fleet, for staff or for visitors, with access control, per-user consumption records and overnight scheduling so the vehicles leave warm and full.

from 1,500 €designed to the site

Equipment only

If the cabling is already there, or an older unit is due for replacement, we supply and commission a certified charger matched to your car — paired to your phone, with the timer and any preconditioning routine set up so the winter side of it works from the first night.

400 – 1,400 €by brand and power

03Typical jobs

Installing a charging point in a private or communal garage

A flat above a steep street in the old town, a space in a basement in one of the newer districts, a van on an industrial estate: in Alcoy the installation is decided by the building, and the winter decides the settings.

Old town

The historic centre and its difficult buildings

Steep streets and old buildings are the hardest brief we get here: no garage, or a garage two corners away, and a fabric that does not welcome new cable runs. Sometimes the answer is a neighbouring communal garage rather than the flat itself. We will tell you straight if the honest answer is that your building is not the place for it.

Community

A basement bay of your own

Article 17.5 of the Horizontal Property Act asks for one thing and one thing only: written notice to the community. No vote, nothing to negotiate. We put that notice together, feed the line off your own meter so the energy is billed only to you, and you pick up the winter dividend of a car that never stands outdoors overnight.

Outskirts

Houses and urbanisations around the city

A plot of your own makes the electrical side simple and the thermal side worth planning: a sheltered wall rather than an exposed one, the unit out of the worst of the frost, and a timer that finishes the charge close to departure time instead of at two in the morning.

Industry

Fleets and delivery vans

Alcoy still manufactures, and the estates around it move goods every morning. Several units on the same supply need load management so nothing trips at seven o'clock, plus metering per vehicle and a charging window that lines up with the shift rather than fighting it.

Is your space in a shared garage? The law is on your side: written notice is enough — no AGM, no vote.

04Certified equipment

V2C and Wallbox chargers we install in Alcoy

In Alcoy we choose hardware for one feature above all others: scheduling that people actually use. A charger whose timer and app are straightforward is what turns a cold morning into a non-event. Solar surplus mode is worth having if there are panels on the roof, though at this altitude it plays a supporting role rather than the lead.

V2C Trydan

Made just up the road

V2C is a Valencian manufacturer: the Trydan ships with its own app, dynamic load management and solar surplus mode built in, and spares or support sit in the same region. Our default choice for homes.

Wallbox Pulsar

Small, solid and widely known

The Pulsar fits on any wall, is run entirely from your phone and has years of installations across Europe behind it. It sits as comfortably in a townhouse as in a basement parking space.

Other brands

Circutor, Veltium, ABB, Orbis

When the job calls for three-phase, access control or charging for several cars, we turn to the rest of the certified manufacturers. The recommendation comes from your installation, not from a commission. See the equipment.

What each unit delivers, and what it costs, is laid out on the main page under the equipment we install. In Alcoy we filter that list by one question above all: how good is the timer?

05Cold and range

Winter in Alcoy: what the cold does to your battery, and what to do about it

Everywhere else on the Costa Blanca the electric-car conversation is about heat. Alcoy inverts it. At roughly 550 to 700 metres the city has frosts, cold nights and the occasional fall of snow, and a lithium battery reacts to all three in the same way: the chemistry slows down. You lose range — how much depends on the car, the trip and the heating — and, less well known, the pack accepts alternating current more slowly while it is still cold. Since a home wallbox delivers AC, a January session can genuinely take longer than a June one at exactly the same power. Nothing is wrong with the equipment.

The first remedy is architectural, and it costs nothing: park inside. An enclosed garage — a communal basement, a garage under the house — sits several degrees above the street on a frosty night, and a pack that starts the session warmer charges faster and gives more of its range back the next morning. It is one of the reasons a space in a communal garage is a better asset in Alcoy than the same space would be down on the coast.

The second is a setting rather than a component. Charge on a schedule, so the session finishes near the time you leave rather than in the middle of the night, and the battery is still warm from its own charging when you set off. Then precondition the cabin and the pack while the car is still plugged in: the heating draws from the wall instead of eating into the range you are about to use. Most cars do this from the app, and every charger we fit will hold the timer that makes it work. We set both up before we hand the installation over.

The money side of 2026 fits in a paragraph. One incentive survives: a state deduction of 15% on what the installation costs, applied to a base that stops at 4,000 €, so 600 € is the most anyone takes home. Finish before 31 December 2026, pay by transfer or card, keep cash out of it. Whether the house is your main home makes no difference at all. Whether you file the Spanish resident income-tax return (IRPF) makes every difference, because that return is where the deduction is claimed; anyone on the annual non-resident tax has nothing of the sort available, and the EU/EEA route into resident taxation closed to UK residents with Brexit. No Valencian regional deduction exists for charging points, and MOVES III finished on 31 December 2025.

61,468

people live in Alcoy according to the 2025 INE figures, in the city that heads the L'Alcoià comarca.

550–700 m

is roughly the altitude of the city. That is why the local charging question is cold rather than heat.

600 €

is all the state 15% deduction can hand back, since the base it applies to stops at 4,000 €, and only to Spanish tax residents.

31/12/2026

is when the door shuts: the work has to be finished by then, and paid in a way that leaves a trace.

06Coverage

Alcoy and L'Alcoià: the districts where we fit EV chargers

The city is really three different electrical problems stacked on one hillside, plus the estates that keep it working and the valleys around it.

Centre

The historic centre and the Modernista streets

Steep, dense and old. Parking is rarely attached to the flat, buildings resist new cable routes, and the realistic solution is often a space in a nearby communal garage. We survey before we promise anything here, and we say no when no is the truthful answer.

New city

The newer districts and their garages

Blocks built with a basement underneath, which is the easiest and, in this climate, the best place to charge. Written notice to the community, a dedicated line from your own meter, and cabling the neighbours will never notice again.

Outskirts

Outlying districts and urbanisations

Detached houses with their own plot, between the city and the slopes of Mariola and Font Roja. Simple electrically, and the place where a sheltered position for the unit and a well-set timer earn their keep in January.

Comarca

The industrial estates and the inland valleys

Active estates with fleets and delivery vans, and the towns of L'Alcoià and the valleys nearby. Whether it is one van or eight, the survey and the quote work the same way.

We cover every corner of the province of Alicante. Other towns with a page of their own: Elche · Torrevieja · Orihuela · Benidorm · San Vicente del Raspeig · Elda · Dénia · Santa Pola · Villajoyosa.

What should an EV charger cost at a house in Alcoy?

Reckon on 790 to 1,400 €, covering the unit, the work and the certification. Your position inside that band is decided mostly by how far the consumer unit sits from the parking space, by the power you choose and by any extras. We survey first; after that the number is fixed and written down.

Will the cold in Alcoy damage my car battery or the charger?

Damage, no. Slow things down, yes. At this altitude the winter cold reduces the range you get from a charge and makes the battery accept alternating current more slowly while it is still cold, which is what a home charger delivers. The equipment we fit is rated for outdoor use and for frost; the practical difference is made by parking inside where possible and by charging on a timer.

Does an enclosed garage really make a difference in winter?

It does, and it is the cheapest improvement available. A closed garage stays several degrees milder than the street on a frosty night, so the pack begins the session warmer, charges more readily and returns more of its range in the morning. In Alcoy that makes a communal basement space genuinely valuable.

What is preconditioning and how do I use it here?

It means warming the cabin and the battery before you set off. The trick is to do it while the car is still plugged in, so the energy comes from the wall rather than from the range you are about to drive. Combined with a schedule that finishes the charge close to your departure time, it is the single most effective habit for a January morning in Alcoy.

How many days from survey to a car actually charging?

One day for the physical work in a house; two at most in a basement, and only if the meter sits a long way from the bay. The electrical installation certificate (CIE) and the Industria registration at the Generalitat Valenciana follow on, and neither is charged on top. You sign, and that is your entire contribution.

My bay is in a communal garage. Does the community have to approve it?

It does not. Article 17.5 of the Horizontal Property Act asks for written notice to the president or the administrator and nothing beyond that: no vote, no veto. We prepare the notice, and because the supply comes off your own meter, every kilowatt-hour is billed where it was used.

Any grants left for a charger in Alcoy in 2026?

Exactly one: a state income-tax deduction of 15% applied to a base that stops at 4,000 €, giving 600 € at best, on installations completed before 31 December 2026 and paid in traceable form. MOVES III ended on 31 December 2025, and the Valencian Community runs no regional deduction for charging points.

I pay my tax outside Spain. Is the deduction still open to me?

No, and better to hear it before the budget is drawn. It is claimed inside the Spanish resident income-tax return, so filing that return is the entry ticket. Where you were born counts for nothing — a resident of any nationality claims on the same terms — but somebody on the annual non-resident tax has nothing equivalent, and the EU/EEA route into resident taxation closed to UK residents with Brexit. The property itself does not have to be your main home.

I have solar panels. Is charging from surplus worth it in Alcoy?

Yes, with a sense of proportion. Chargers such as the V2C Trydan will run on surplus alone, mix roof and grid, or ignore the sun entirely, whichever you pick in the app. Inland and at altitude there are fewer usable hours than on the coast and the winters are real, so solar here is a good supporting argument rather than the main one. The core of a good installation in Alcoy is still the schedule.
